Cyber bullying (Second grade-CC)

Instructional Goals and Objectives:

Introduce students to the concept of cyberbullying

Students will explain how bullying can take place using technology so they can recognize it when it happens.

Instructional strategies:

Procedure:

Begin with class discussion about bullying (our class definition: someone making your life crummy on purpose over and over).

In small groups, students list ways that kids can bully others.

Discuss as a class, emphasizing how hurtful it is, as well as the personal nature of the bullying.

Students watch a video showing how one child bullies another (calling her a cheater) using the Internet:

Discuss as a class ways bullying can take place over the Internet and how it can be hurtful and more pervasive than face-to-face bullying.

Student groups add to their lists of ways that kids can bully others.

Materials:

Paper/pencil for student lists

Media cart or computer lab teacher  access to Internet video

Assessment:

As a group, students list reasons that cyber bullying is hurtful and wrong.
